Farmhouse Pottery

How did I not discover this amazing store, Farmhouse Pottery (& wonderful online shop) sooner?? What a treat to stumble into this amazing store in Woodstock VT! As soon as you walk into this light & airy store, you see the adjacent workshop with busy potters & woodworkers crafting all their pieces. Immediately I feel the need to make bread & homemade soup (which is interesting since I never cook), certain that I must have every glazed pot, cutting board and slotted spoon. Recognizing my culinary limitations, I shift my focus to home accessories - wool throw blankets, vessels that can double as beautiful vases, & yes, a cookbook to get me started.

What makes the store so alluring is the complete lifestyle on offer here. Everything in this simple white clapboard house has such a distinct, clear, simple point of view – natural materials, intelligent design, practical pieces made perfect (the doormat is beautiful enough to be a modern sculpture but alas, cleans muddy New England boots with great efficiency). The store is sparse but warm with texture and muted colors throughout (smooth blonde wood, sprigs of lavender, luscious linen napkins…).

As I learned more about Farmhouse Pottery & its founders, the clear philosophy behind these products & the merchandising makes sense. Founder/owners James & Zoe Zilian have rich backgrounds in craftsmanship & design (degrees from Maine College of Art & the San Francisco Art Institute) and have a mission-oriented approach to their business. Since my first visit to their store, I’ve been able to get some major furniture pieces from them as well, which I look forward to sharing with you all in coming weeks!
